13th July – GAP Programme “An Especially special Prayer 2”

An Especially Special Prayer 2 In today’s GAP we are going to continue to look at that special prayer that Jesus taught us. For the play ideas, they are all going to be play prayers to help us to talk to our Father in Heaven. In the story time we focus on thanking God for our food and saying sorry. Play Prayers Play dough prayers – make things that you are thankful to God for.Bubble prayers – Blow up your prayers to Jesus. Maybe (particularly the adults) this could be a sorry prayer  - as you watch the bubbles pop,  know that Jesus has forgiven you. Or imagine those bubbles are your worries as you blow them for your children. As they pop know that God is popping away those worries for you.Build a den and make it all cosy. Have a chat to Jesus while you are in there.Sit at the table and have a drink and biscuit and snack (coffee and cake for me!). Make sure there is a chair at the table for Jesus. Talk to Him. What do you want to tell Him or ask Him today? Give Him a chance to answer. This is for ... Read More

15th June – GAP Programme “Touched by God”

Touched by God Introduction This week’s session is all about what happens to our hearts when we are touched by God (The Holy Spirit). Over the last few weeks we have been thinking about the Holy Spirit, firstly being our helper, but also how it can warm our hearts and make our hearts fizzy with Jesus’ power. Today we will look at how Gods touch can soften our hearts and also make us bubble with excitement. God knows us and he knows exactly what our hearts need. A touch from God can change everything. So our activities today are based around touch, softening, bubbling, excitement and of course hearts. Pick the activities that best work for you and your children. Play and Activity Ideas Objects that are different textures – soft, smooth, rough, spikey, sticky etc. Sort them into piles and talk about what it feels like when we touch them.Lucky Dip! Warm Hearts Play and Activity Ideas Download the activity sheet and print in colour onto card. If you don’t have a printer you could design your own version.  Cut them into individual cards. To play the game, place all the cards face down on the floor. The first child turns over two cards and if they match they get to keep them. If not, they must turn them face down again. Play then passes to the next child. The game is over when all the cards have been won. Count up and see who has the most pairs. 10th April – GAP Good Friday Programme

Darkness Play and Activity Ideas Play out in the garden. It’s a lovely time weather wise, if you have a garden get out there. If not appreciate the beauty of Spring on your daily walk.Make a garden on a plate or in a bowl or tray. Could you turn it into an Easter garden with a mound for a cross or three and a pile of stones perhaps symbolizing Jesus’ tomb? A fun idea I read was filling an old bit of tights with soil and laying it over a small cup or pot on its side and sprinkling grass seed on it. I might try that in mine. Ruth's Easter Garden Cooking – hot cross buns may be a step too far but any biscuit or small muffin making that you can do together would be fun. Finish each one with a cross on it. Lots of time to talk about why we do that at Easter.Eat hot cross buns. Peter prefers them toasted with lashings of butter. I prefer them as they come without. What do you like best? Games Scavenger Hunt – outside is best but you can do this indoors too. Collect things starting with different ... Read More

23rd Mar - GAP Programme "Encounters with Jesus"

23rd Mar – GAP Programme “Encounters with Jesus”

Encounters with Jesus – Son of Abraham – Zacchaeus Story First the story – it comes from Luke 19: 1 – 10. This is the child-friendly gist of it. Maybe tell it a couple of times in different ways and discuss the man and how he felt. Use a toy man and a plant or tree as visual aids? Zacchaeus was a sad man. No one liked him because he worked as a tax collector, and he also stole from people to make himself richer. Zacchaeus was sad. He wanted to be different, but he didn’t know how. When Zacchaeus heard that Jesus was coming, he decided to go and see him. But because he was short, he was worried that he wouldn’t be able to see anything. Zaccheus ran ahead and hid in the branches up a sycamore tree. When Jesus came along, he stopped and looked up. He saw Zaccheus. “Come on down, Zaccheus!” called Jesus, “I am having dinner at your house today!” Zacchaeus fell out of the tree. He was so happy and excited! But the people were cross. “Zacchaeus is a sinner,” they grumbled, “How come Jesus is staying with him?” But Zaccheus wanted to ... Read More
